I'm Javier Mendez
I’m a wedding photographer based in La Fortuna, Costa Rica. When I’m not behind a camera, you’ll usually find me in the mountains or spending time with my family. Film photography is a big part of my life—it’s how I keep my own memories, and what first led me to become a professional photographer.
For the past 12 years, I’ve photographed weddings throughout Costa Rica. I love getting to know the people in front of my camera and noticing the little things that make each celebration their own: a familiar gesture, an unexpected laugh, or a quiet moment together.
I’m also drawn to the setting of each wedding—the changing light, the surrounding landscape, and the details you chose. Alongside the people you love, these are the things I want your photographs to bring you back to.

My philosophy
I BELIEVE THE PEOPLE MATTER MOST
I’m a sentimental person. In my own life, the photographs I return to are often the simplest ones: my family together, a familiar expression, someone caught in the middle of a laugh. Over time, those photographs become more personal, and I find more reasons to love them.
That’s what draws me to weddings. You’ve brought together people who mean so much to you, each with a place in your story. I’m curious about those relationships and the little things that make them yours. Getting to know you helps me see what matters to you, too.
Film, Digital & Everything In Between
Film is where I let things feel a little more raw. Less posing, less perfection—more movement, emotion, and instinct.
It allows me to photograph moments as they happen and embrace the little imperfections that make an image feel real. Together with digital, it gives me the freedom to tell your wedding story in a way that feels natural, honest, and alive.
